In the mid-17th century, black tea was discovered in China. It is also known as “red tea” in China and South-Asian countries for its rich, reddish infusion, is unique in that it is comprised of two different forms of the camellia sinensis plant called camellia sinensis sinensis and camellia sinensis assamica.

Many people drink black tea for alertness and energy. But black tea is also full of healthy substances called polyphenols which can help to protect cells from DNA damage. In Western culture, generally when people talk about tea, often referring about black tea. Even the popular English Breakfast and Earl Grey blends are made from black tea leaves.
